The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to former Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki and his brother Rizwan Solanki in a Kanpur Nagar extortion case.

Despite being granted bail in the 2022 case, the brothers remain in custody due to other pending criminal charges. The bail request was related to 2022 charges of extortion under Section 386 of the Indian Penal Code, claiming the brothers threatened informant Akeel Ahmad for Rs 10 lakh.

Irfan Solanki, who was an MLA at the time of the alleged incident, argues that political rivalry led to his targeting. Justice Raj Beer Singh, referencing a Supreme Court decision, noted criminal history alone isn't grounds to deny bail. However, the brothers remain in jail due to other unresolved legal matters.
