The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called upon the Election Commission to conduct an audit and revision of the voter rolls in West Bengal. The party claims that over 13 lakh duplicate voters have been added during the tenure of the Trinamool Congress.
A delegation from the BJP's West Bengal unit, including state president Sukanta Majumdar and co-observer Amit Malviya, submitted a petition to the Election Commission, citing the concerns. They reported that around 8,415 individuals in the state are registered with similar EPIC numbers.
Malviya alleged systematic infiltration of voter rolls with illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas over the last 14 years. The Election Commission has assured that it will investigate these claims and take necessary action to ensure fair elections.
