Ghaziabad's Successful Crackdown on Public Drinking

Ghaziabad police have arrested nearly 29,000 individuals in a special drive targeting public drinking, especially near liquor shops. This initiative, starting January 6, substantially reduced crimes in the city. Commissioner Ajay Kumar Mishra noted a 50% drop in serious offenses due to this campaign that continues to extend its reach.

The Ghaziabad police department reported the arrest of approximately 29,000 people as part of a targeted initiative against public alcohol consumption, with a focus on areas near liquor shops.

Commencing on January 6, the crackdown zeroed in on individuals consuming alcohol on roads, in vehicles, and open areas close to liquor outlets, as detailed in an official release.

Commissioner of Police Ajay Kumar Mishra highlighted that from 6 pm to 10 pm daily, law enforcement conducted raids in notorious spots. These efforts led to a 50% reduction in crimes such as murder and culpable homicide, and the crackdown will persist in the upcoming months.
