In a significant development, Ukraine has consented to a 30-day ceasefire in its conflict with Russia, following discussions with U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia. A joint statement from the parties revealed that the United States is now poised to present this offer to Moscow, putting the onus on the Russian side for further action.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that Russian reciprocity is crucial for achieving lasting peace. The ceasefire, hailed as a 'positive proposal' by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, will cover frontline combat. The U.S. also plans to resume intelligence sharing and security assistance to Ukraine.
Furthermore, talks between Washington and Kyiv are set to finalize a critical minerals resource agreement shortly. Negotiations had stalled following a recent contentious discussion between President Donald Trump and President Zelenskiy, but now appear back on track for completion.
