The Justice H N Nagamohan Das Commission has submitted a voluminous 20,000-page report to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, addressing allegations of a '40 per cent commission' scandal under the previous BJP governance. The controversy influenced the 2023 Assembly elections and aided the Congress in regaining control.
Originating from a complaint by the Karnataka State Contractors' Association, the probe looked into exorbitant commission charges in government tender works. The association further requested a review of tender processes, including transparency measures and rate system implementations.
The commission's inquiry, extending to various completed projects between mid-2019 and early 2023, involved a meticulous examination of public complaints and site inspections. Despite initial deadlines, the extended investigation reflects a significant political issue, culminating in a robust analysis now in the hands of state governance.
