A group of around 100 senior figures from Syria's Druze community is set to visit the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Friday, highlighting Israel's continued backing of this minority group. Community members revealed the delegates plan to meet with Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif, the Druze community's spiritual leader in Israel.

Although there is no official confirmation from the Israeli foreign ministry, the visit underscores the complex identity and presence of the Druze across Syria, Israel, the Palestinian Territories, and Lebanon. Their faith, originating from Islam, holds a distinct cultural and religious identity.

In Israel, many Druze participate actively in the military and police forces. Friday's visit is another indication of Israeli support for the Druze following significant regional developments, including the fall of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Israeli officials remain skeptical about the Syrian government's new leadership under President Ahmed al-Sharaa, pointing to the jihadist affiliations of his Hayat Tahrir al-Sham movement.
