Tensions Flare Despite Russia's Ceasefire in Ukraine
Ukraine experienced a quiet night following a declared ceasefire by Russia but continues to witness assaults. Despite the temporary peace, tensions escalate as Ukraine remains skeptical of Russia's intentions. Meanwhile, Ukraine has not agreed to the ceasefire, viewing it as a misleading tactic by Putin.
A night of calm settled over Ukraine's major cities after a three-day ceasefire was declared by Russia. Despite this temporary sense of peace, Ukrainian prosecutors reported that a woman was killed by Russian bombs in the northern region, highlighting ongoing violence.
The ceasefire coincides with the 80th anniversary of Nazi Germany's defeat in World War Two, marked by a parade hosted by President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Ukraine, however, remains wary, as skepticism looms over Russia's intentions to pursue genuine peace.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy criticized the parade as insincere, reflecting the underlying tensions. Ukraine has yet to acknowledge the ceasefire, suspecting it as a ploy by Putin. Meanwhile, Ukraine's military reported continued clashes along the front, indicating a fragile peace.
