Maoist Encounter Leads to Recovery of Weapons in Gadchiroli

Police recovered weapons and other materials belonging to Maoists after a two-hour encounter in Gadchiroli district, Maharashtra. On Monday, police forces in Gadchiroli district, Maharashtra, successfully recovered weapons and materials belonging to Maoists following a two-hour encounter at the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border, officials reported.

The operation was initiated after reliable intelligence indicated the presence of a Maoist camp near a newly opened foot overbridge at Kawande. A specialized unit of approximately 200 C-60 commandos, led by Additional SP M Rames, spearheaded the mission late Sunday.

In the ensuing gunfight early Monday, the C-60 unit retaliated after coming under indiscriminate fire from Maoists. The confrontation resulted in the recovery of two rifles, live rounds, detonators, and significant Naxal literature. The Maoist camp was completely dismantled during the operation, raising speculation of possible casualties among the Maoists, as noted by the police statement.
