FCC Weighs in on Paramount-Skydance Merger Proposals
The FCC chair expressed approval for Skydance's pledges towards significant changes at CBS amidst its planned merger with Paramount. The $8.4-billion deal is under review, with commitments including the discontinuation of diversity programs and a two-year ombudsman for CBS News bias complaints.
The chair of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has given his thoughts on the proposed merger between CBS parent company Paramount and Skydance Media. The merger, valued at $8.4 billion, requires FCC approval.
During a commission meeting, FCC Chair Brendan Carr expressed satisfaction with Skydance's commitments regarding significant changes at CBS. These include a decision to end diversity programs and the appointment of an ombudsman for at least two years to address bias complaints in CBS News programming.
Despite Carr's positive remarks, the FCC has yet to reach a final decision on whether to approve the merger. The agency's ongoing review will continue, with careful consideration of the proposed changes and their potential impact.
