The tragic alleged honour killing of Dalit IT engineer Kavin Selvaganesh in Tamil Nadu has intensified demands for a separate legislation to address such heinous incidents. Allies of the ruling DMK, including VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan, have urged the government to take immediate action.
The 27-year-old victim was brutally killed over an inter-caste relationship near Tirunevlei. Thirumavalavan has called for the arrest of the woman's parents, who are accused of being involved, and urged for a special investigating team to ensure a fair probe.
Political leaders emphasize the urgency of introducing a dedicated law, as existing laws fail to prevent caste-based honour killings. The recent arrest of S Surjith, alongside the suspension of his parents, who are police officers, highlights systemic issues in addressing caste-related violence.
