Arrest of Notorious Criminal Ends Dramatic Standoff in Odisha

A 25-year-old man named Sunil Nahal, wanted in 20 criminal cases, was arrested in Odisha following a gunfight with police. Nahal, alias Mala, was injured in the knee during the encounter and is now in custody. Authorities seized a country-made pistol and anticipate recovering stolen goods.

In a dramatic turn of events, Odisha police on Saturday arrested Sunil Nahal, a 25-year-old fugitive wanted in at least 20 criminal offenses, during a tense gunfight. The incident unfolded in Ganjam district and led to Nahal, also known by his alias Mala, sustaining a gunshot wound to his left knee.

Nahal, a resident of Kabisurya Nagar, had been evading law enforcement despite being implicated in serious charges, including murder, dacoity, and chain-snatching. Authorities recovered a country-made pistol loaded with three rounds from his possession, according to SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M.

After receiving a tip-off, police located Nahal in Golanthara, prompting an armed exchange. While no officers were injured, a police vehicle was damaged. Nahal was subsequently admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for treatment. He is expected to be presented in court post-recovery, with police hopeful of retrieving all stolen chains following his arrest.
