In Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district, allegations of severe police torture surfaced as Partha Sarathi Das spoke out on Wednesday about his harrowing experience at Biridi police station.
Das, a Balia resident, revealed that during an incident on July 25, he was allegedly subjected to 'third-degree torture' by police officers following a clash at a scheduled meeting that was to be chaired by BJD MLA Ramakant Bhoi.
The local authorities, who claimed to have first learned of the allegations via media outlets, have initiated a formal investigation. The Jagatsinghpur SP announced a probe led by an additional SP rank officer to uncover the truth, with a review of CCTV and other evidence underway.
