A tragic helicopter crash in Ghana has claimed the lives of eight people, including the country's defense and environment ministers. The accident occurred when the helicopter, en route to the gold-mining town of Obuasi from Accra, went off the radar on Wednesday.
The deceased also include a top national security adviser, the vice-chair of the ruling National Democratic Congress party, and several crew members. State media identified the helicopter as a Z-9, commonly used for transport and medical evacuation.
Ghana's government has called this incident a 'national tragedy.' It marks one of the deadliest air disasters in the nation in over a decade, further underscoring previous aerial mishaps like the 2014 service helicopter crash and the 2021 cargo plane accident.
