Sukhbir Singh Badal, President of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), has launched a scathing attack on the ruling AAP government, denouncing its land pooling policy as a 'land-grabbing' scheme. Badal announced that his party would initiate protests starting September 1 in Mohali, demanding the withdrawal of the contentious policy.
Addressing media after meeting with SAD's core committee, Badal accused the AAP government of colluding with Delhi builders in a scheme detrimental to Punjab's farmers. Alleging an 'underhand deal,' he claimed that the policy is a significant threat to Punjab's agricultural community.
The AAP defends its policy as beneficial to farmers, promising developed plots in return for land. However, opposition and farmer groups have strongly criticized the initiative. SAD's protest strategies include continuous 'dharna' demonstrations, as a dedicated committee spearheads their efforts against the policy.
