Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced significant changes in the state's reservation policy for Scheduled Castes, following the cabinet's approval of Justice H N Nagamohan Das's recommendations with some modifications. The new policy includes a six per cent internal quota for communities identified as 'Left-Hand castes'.
In a bid to promote fairness and equal opportunities in education and employment, the cabinet's decision aims to provide internal reservation for the state's 101 Scheduled Castes. The move, however, has been met with controversy, as opposition parties demanded a debate on the matter but were denied a discussion in the Assembly.
The government remains committed to revisiting this decision pending future data from the national census. The opposition staged a walkout, expressing dissatisfaction over the lack of dialogue, while the government emphasized its stance on social justice and equality.
