UN Criticizes Israel's Intercept of Gaza Aid Ships

The UN rights office condemned Israel's interception of aid vessels en route to Gaza, stating it exacerbates the blockade. Israel, as an occupying force, needs to ensure food and medical supplies reach Gaza or facilitate humanitarian efforts. Additionally, Israel should respect the detainees' right to challenge their detention.

On Thursday, the UN rights office expressed strong disapproval of Israel's interception of civilian aid vessels headed for Gaza, stating it contributes to the unlawful blockade of the region.

The UN emphasized that, as the occupying power, Israel holds the responsibility to ensure the delivery of food and medical supplies to Gaza. Alternatively, it should facilitate unbiased humanitarian efforts swiftly and without obstruction. This statement was made by UN spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan in an email communication with Reuters.

The spokesperson further urged Israel to uphold the rights of individuals detained, emphasizing the importance of allowing them to legally challenge their detention status.
