Assam CM Launches 'Shraddhanjali' Scheme for Dignified Repatriation

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma introduced the 'Shraddhanjali' scheme to ensure the dignified repatriation of deceased individuals from the state who pass away outside Assam. The initiative, coordinated by the Home and Political Department and Assam Police, excludes financially stable families and those seeking external medical treatment.

In a significant move, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the launch of the 'Shraddhanjali' scheme, aimed at ensuring the respectful return of citizens' remains who die outside the state.

Speaking at the unveiling of the scheme, Sarma highlighted its purpose to assist families who face difficulty in bringing back their deceased relatives. Managed by the Home and Political Department alongside Assam Police, the initiative excludes those financially capable of handling such arrangements.

Additionally, the scheme does not extend to patients traveling to other states for medical treatment, as they fall outside its intended target group, the Chief Minister clarified.
