In a significant move toward resolving longstanding hostilities, the Palestinian militant group Hamas released seven Israeli hostages to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza on Monday.
This action marks the initial phase of a comprehensive ceasefire agreement with Israel, which involves the reciprocal release of hundreds of Palestinian detainees.
The ceasefire is viewed as the biggest leap toward ending the two-year conflict between the two sides, aligned with a 20-point peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, who is expected to visit the region subsequently.
