Ukraine's parliament has taken decisive action to bolster the country's defense capabilities amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. Lawmakers have approved a substantial increase of 325 billion hryvnias ($7.7 billion) in defense spending, bringing the total to a record 2.96 trillion hryvnias ($70.86 billion) for this year alone.

The decision comes as intense combat continues along the 1,200-kilometer frontline, requiring more resources to maintain Ukraine's defense lines. Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko emphasized the necessity of the increase to resist aggression effectively, with government sources citing support from international partners as crucial to securing these funds.

A portion of the defense budget will be financed by a G7 member countries loan, with additional backing from frozen Russian sovereign assets. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko noted the fair use of Russian assets to support the Ukrainian military as the nation struggles to maintain its sovereignty in the face of ongoing challenges.
