A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against unknown individuals accused of placing a Lord Hanuman idol inside an ancient shrine belonging to another faith in a village within the Bhojpur police station area, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday night, and a video of it went viral on social media the following day. This incited anger among community members, who gathered to protest outside the shrine. Sub-Inspector Shivam Pandey, who filed the FIR, stated that the police intervened to calm the agitated crowd.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Amit Saxena, responsible for Modinagar, reported that the idol has since been removed and relocated to a temple. Additional police forces have been deployed to maintain peace, and efforts to apprehend the perpetrators are ongoing.
