The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a significant raid at the residence of suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Harcharan Singh Bhullar. Bhullar, who served in the Ropar Range of Punjab, was arrested last week amid a bribery scandal, with allegations of accepting illicit payments in exchange for legal favors.
The CBI's operation unveiled a startling collection of cash, luxury watches, and gold jewelry, fueling suspicions of his involvement in corruption. Officials found Rs 7.5 crore in cash and a stash of 26 luxury watches, including Rolex models, during the operation. The search also uncovered documents for numerous properties and multiple bank accounts, intensifying the investigation's scope.
Bhullar's arrest arose from a complaint by a scrap dealer, accusing the officer of demanding bribes to influence the outcome of a First Information Report (FIR) filed against him. The ongoing investigation has expanded to include several of Bhullar's bank lockers, while the Punjab government swiftly suspended him pending further inquiries.
