On Monday, a journalist was detained in Madhya Pradesh's Tikamgarh district for allegedly possessing illicit liquor valued at Rs 2.5 lakh. The arrest occurred near the Madhya Pradesh-Uttar Pradesh border where liquor prices differ significantly.

The police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a vehicle traveling from Nowgaon in the neighboring Chhatarpur district. The car, driven by a man identifying himself as journalist Pushpendra Saxena, contained 50 cartons of country-made liquor.

Saxena presented an identity card from a regional daily and an accreditation card from the Madhya Pradesh government. Authorities also recovered a licensed .32-bore pistol and registered a case under the Excise Act as investigations continue.
