A judicial inquiry, led by retired Supreme Court Judge B S Chauhan, has been launched to investigate the violence in Leh that left four people dead. The commission is allowing a 30-day period for the public to submit evidence or information about the September 24 incident.
The Union government announced this inquiry in response to demands from Ladakh groups seeking clarity and accountability over the tragic events. The inquiry will scrutinize the lead-up to the violence, police actions, and resultant casualties.
The commission, which includes retired Judge Mohan Singh Parihar as judicial secretary and IAS officer Tushar Anand as administrative secretary, will review all collected evidence starting December 10. Meanwhile, public meetings are scheduled to gather additional testimonies, ensuring a transparent process.
