In response to escalating stubble burning incidents, the Maharajganj district administration has intensified enforcement measures, officials reported on Tuesday. A lekhpal has been suspended and show cause notices have been dispatched to several magistrates and police officials over their inability to manage the situation effectively.
These measures come after 31 new cases were registered on Monday, contributing to a total of 285 this season, the highest in Uttar Pradesh. District Magistrate Satendra Kumar Sharma emphasized that negligence in preventing such incidents will not be overlooked.
Fines totaling Rs 3.4 lakh have been issued under the Environmental Pollution Control Act, and combine harvesters violating regulations are being seized. Authorities urge farmers to utilize government-provided resources for residue management to promote environmental safety.
