Tensions Rise: Israeli Strike Hits Lebanon’s Sidon
An Israeli airstrike on Sidon, southern Lebanon, killed 13 and injured others, targeting what Israel claims was a militant training site. Hamas disputed this, asserting the site was a civilian sports field. The incident adds strain to the fragile peace between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese Health Ministry reports that an Israeli airstrike on the southern city of Sidon has resulted in the deaths of 13 individuals, with several others wounded. The Israeli military maintains that the attack targeted militants in a training compound at Ain al-Hilweh, a densely populated Palestinian refugee camp near Sidon.
In response, Hamas issued a statement condemning the airstrike and countering Israeli claims. The group asserted that the targeted location was actually a public sports field used by the camp's residents, denying any military installations in Lebanon's refugee camps.
Despite a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon continue. These operations reportedly target Iran-backed groups, with the potential threat of further destabilizing regional peace efforts, highlighting the enduring volatility in the region.
