A Booth Level Officer (BLO) named Rinku Tarafdar was discovered dead at her home in West Bengal's Nadia district on Saturday, reportedly by suicide due to work-related stress, police confirmed.
The incident occurred in the Bangaljhi area of Chapra, Krishnanagar, where Tarafdar was found hanging, with a note recovered from her room, indicating immense work pressure from SIR duties. Authorities have sent her body for postmortem and launched an investigation.
In response, State Minister Ujjal Biswas visited the bereaved family, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. She urged the suspension of the ongoing SIR in Bengal, highlighting potential threats to worker safety and the overall process's legitimacy.
