Booth-level officers in West Bengal are gearing up for a march on Monday to voice concerns over extreme workload pressures and systemic flaws in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Organised by the BLO Adhikar Raksha Committee, the protest aims to highlight the severe stress faced by officers during the electoral roll revision.
This march, set to proceed from College Square in north Kolkata to the Chief Electoral Officer's office, seeks immediate intervention from the Election Commission. The committee argues that the unrelenting pressure has led to several health issues and even suicides among BLOs. Para-teachers, college professors, and teachers are expected to support this demonstration.
The committee warns of continuous protests if deadlines aren't extended or if the raised concerns remain unaddressed. Meanwhile, another group, BLO Oikya Mancha, stresses the need for more support in digitising enumeration forms.
