The Lok Sabha granted extensions on Monday for the submission of reports by two select committees concerning significant legislative bills. This decision took place amidst ongoing disruption by the Opposition over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The House extended the deadline until the last day of the Winter session for a select committee to present its findings on the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2025. Referred for review on August 12, the bill aims to introduce various changes, including out-of-court processes for addressing business insolvencies and frameworks for group and cross-border insolvencies.
In addition, the Lok Sabha provided an extension until the second week's end of the Winter session for another committee to report on the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025. Introduced on August 18, this bill plans to decriminalise 288 minor offence provisions across different laws, enhancing ease of living and business. A similar bill passed earlier in 2023 decriminalised 183 provisions across 42 central Acts.
