This week, the Supreme Court issued notices to the Centre and other authorities concerning a petition that contests the removal of concessional GST benefits for car purchases by persons with disabilities, effectively denying them financial relief.
Filed by a visually-impaired individual through advocate Sajal Jain, the plea appeals for the reinstatement of the GST concession for eligible disabled individuals in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. The Supreme Court, led by Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, requires a response from the parties involved within four weeks.
The petitioner contends that inconsistent and arbitrary stance changes by authorities have led to the unfair application of the GST exemption scheme, affecting differently-abled individuals across India.
