Nine tonnes of illegal plastic have been confiscated from a warehouse in Palghar district, Maharashtra, according to civic authorities.
Following informed tips, a team from the Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVMC) raided a warehouse in the Sari Compound, Achhole, Nalasopara, on Friday, discovering banned materials.
The VVMC claims this is their largest seizure of illegal plastic, slapping a Rs 5,000 fine on the warehouse owners while cautioning that repeat offenders face steeper fines and potential jail time.
