The Sri Lankan government swiftly initiated relief efforts following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah, which left more than 600 dead and hundreds missing. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has emphasized the country's rapid return to normalcy, announced a significant relief package, and sought additional funds from the International Monetary Fund to aid recovery.

Dissanayake visited Kandy, the hardest-hit region, inspecting relief operations and speaking with survivors. He outlined measures to restore essential services like electricity and water promptly, alongside financial grants for rebuilding homes, supporting agriculture and fisheries, and providing for displaced families.

The IMF's local office confirmed consideration of an additional USD 200 million request under the Rapid Financing Instrument, underscoring the ongoing recovery needs. The government has introduced temporary debt relief measures and financial supports to boost economic resilience amid the widespread destruction.
