The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, addressed the tragic suicide case of a woman doctor in the state assembly on Tuesday. He confirmed that the handwriting in the suicide note, allegedly left by the doctor who died in Phaltan, was indeed hers. The note implicated a police sub-inspector and a software engineer in her death.

Fadnavis was responding to questions raised by BJP MLA Ameet Satam. The deceased doctor was found in a hotel room in western Maharashtra last October, and in a message written on her palm, she accused the police sub-inspector Gopal Badane and software engineer Prashant Bankar of rape and mental harassment, respectively. Fadnavis stated that the woman's death was caused by hanging, not strangulation, and a judicial inquiry is currently probing any additional involvement.

Fadnavis assured the assembly of the government's commitment to women's safety, despite the unfortunate politicizing of the incident. He also mentioned that due to the doctor's contractual employment status, the government cannot offer her family a job on compassionate grounds but will provide maximum assistance. The CM highlighted the efficacy of new laws like Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, mentioning their role in enhancing women's safety.
