In an effort to mitigate human-wildlife conflict and better integrate forest-dwelling communities, Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandra has pledged to relocate residents from Amagaon village. The announcement came after a delegation from Amagaon met with the minister to request relocation from their secluded forest community.
Addressing residents, Minister Khandra highlighted the successful voluntary relocation of 27 families from Talewadi, located in the Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary, which is not designated as a tiger reserve. The Minister assured that similar efforts will be made for Amagaon and other forest settlements.
Minister Khandra also addressed misinformation regarding the relocation process, emphasizing that such initiatives aim to help integrate forest dwellers into mainstream society, reducing human-wildlife conflicts and allowing forests to regenerate without human interference.
