The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made significant progress in the high-profile case of the murder of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) worker Ramalingam. On Thursday, the agency confirmed the arrests of five individuals in connection with the brutal killing, which took place in 2019 in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.
Among those apprehended are Mohamed Burhanudeen and Mohamed Nabil Hasan, who had been proclaimed offenders and were on the run for nearly seven years. Their capture, facilitated by intelligence from other agencies, took place in Vellore district. The NIA alleges the duo masterminded the attack with an aim to sow communal discord.
The federal agency continues to unravel the conspiracy, following the PFI's designation as an unlawful entity by the government last year. With five out of six proclaimed offenders now detained, the NIA intensifies its efforts to apprehend the remaining suspect, as the investigation seeks to reveal the full extent of the plot.
