The Delhi High Court has mandated that social media platforms respond within a week to cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar's plea for the protection of his personality rights. Gavaskar aims to prevent the unauthorized use of his image and name by online platforms.

Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora instructed Gavaskar's legal representative to initially reach out to social media intermediaries with concerns regarding the misuse of his likeness. The Court considers Gavaskar's case under the guidelines of the Information and Technology (Intermediaries Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

Gavaskar's move to the high court aligns with recent similar actions by numerous Bollywood celebrities seeking to protect their personality and publicity rights. The High Court has previously provided interim relief to several stars, reinforcing the growing trend of safeguarding celebrity images on digital platforms.
