In a significant development in Chhattisgarh, two Naxalite cadres, one of whom is a woman, surrendered before security authorities in Gariaband district, the police disclosed on Saturday.
The two individuals, identified as Santosh, known as Lalpawan, and Manju, called Nande, relinquished their arms after being deeply motivated by the government's favorable rehabilitation policy. According to officials, these individuals had been active contributors to Maoist violence, taking part in lethal encounters with security forces, including a battle that resulted in the demise of 10 Naxalites and an IED explosion that claimed the lives of two policemen.
Active since the early 2000s in different districts, both carried a bounty of Rs 5 lakh each on their heads. Their surrender marks a crucial turn in efforts to curb Maoist insurgency in the region, demonstrating the potential success of established reintegration strategies.
