In a heated protest at Parliament House on Tuesday, opposition MPs rallied against the VB-G RAM G Bill, claiming it disrespects Mahatma Gandhi's legacy. The controversial bill seeks to replace MGNREGA, drawing slogans from opposition leaders calling it an 'insult' to the father of the nation.
Leading the charge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the government's move as an attempt to dismantle the MGNREGA, a rural employment scheme established by the UPA. The demonstration at Gandhi's statue saw participants, including Akhilesh Yadav and TR Baalu, voicing dissent against the BJP-led NDA.
Despite strong opposition, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan defended the bill, highlighting the government's commitment to rural development. The proposed legislation, promising a statutory guarantee of 125 days of work, aims to align with 'Viksit Bharat 2047' by focusing on water security, infrastructure, and climate resilience.
