The legal battle intensifies as the Supreme Court has agreed to hear Justice Yashwant Varma's plea challenging the Lok Sabha's decision to set up a committee for probing corruption allegations against him.
A bench comprising Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih has issued notices to the Lok Sabha Speaker's office and Parliament's secretaries-general, directing them to respond.
Varma's plea questions the constitutionality of the committee, arguing it violates procedural norms under the Judges Inquiry Act, as it was not jointly formed by both Houses of Parliament. The next hearing is scheduled for January 7.
