In response to a controversial courtroom incident, the Supreme Court has requested the Centre and the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) to propose measures ensuring similar episodes do not recur. The court envisions crafting preventive guidelines, ensuring the dignity and decorum of the judiciary are upheld.
The bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, is working with Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and SCBA President Vikas Singh. Joint proposals from these legal luminaries are expected to address preventive measures and establish protocols for the media, aiming for non-adversarial suggestions to handle such occurrences effectively.
Recent events saw lawyer Rakesh Kishore attempt to disrupt proceedings by throwing a shoe at former CJI Gavai. The incident, although unprecedented, was met with composure by Gavai who chose to dismiss the act without pursuing criminal contempt. Nevertheless, it ignited a call for better safety protocols from the Bar Council of India and national leaders.
