The Karnataka assembly turned turbulent as BJP legislators staged a dramatic walkout, protesting the alleged non-disbursal of two months' installments under the state government's women's assistance scheme, Gruha Lakshmi.
Amid accusations of misleading information from the ruling party, the assembly proceedings were disrupted for over an hour. The opposition's outrage was fueled by claims that installments for February and March remained unpaid, contrary to assurances given in the House.
The Gruha Lakshmi scheme, a crucial pre-poll promise of the Congress, provides INR 2,000 monthly to women heads of BPL families. The government addressed the issue, with Deputy CM D K Shivakumar calling for the BJP to also question discrepancies in central funding allocations.
