A terror attack during Hanukkah celebrations on Sydney's Bondi Beach saw 14-year-old Chaya Dadon emerge as a hero. Despite being shot in the thigh, she selflessly shielded two children from gunfire. Her bravery, recounted in an interview with Reuters, underscores the courage displayed amidst the chaos.
The attack, described by officials as an act of terrorism, resulted in 15 deaths and numerous injuries, marking Australia's deadliest mass shooting in decades. Alleged attackers Sajid Akram and his son Naveed were linked to the Islamic State. Sajid was killed by police, while Naveed faces multiple charges.
Dadon, who was later treated for her injuries in the Sydney Children's Hospital, credits her faith for her bravery. Her actions and those of others during the attack have contributed to the resilience of the Jewish community in the face of such adversity, she believes.
