Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann appeared on Thursday before the Akal Takht secretariat in response to being summoned for allegedly making comments offensive to Sikh traditions. Mann, who offered prayers at the Golden Temple prior to his appearance, maintained that he approached the secretariat not as a political figure, but as a devout Sikh needing to clarify his stance.

The acting Jathedar, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, summoned Mann following accusations related to remarks on Sikh practices and objectionable activities involving images of Sikh Gurus and militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Mann addressed concerns regarding alleged videos, claiming them to be fake and AI-generated, a point he emphasized could be validated by any forensic lab.

Historically, Mann is not the first Punjab chief minister to face the Akal Takht's scrutiny; a similar summons marked the tenure of Surjit Singh Barnala. With the final decision pending the examination of Mann's clarifications, the chief minister reiterated his acceptance of any directive issued by the revered temporal authority.
