The Department of Posts has achieved a significant milestone by successfully booking its first online order through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) on 13 January 2026, operating in its new role as a Logistics Service Provider (LSP). The consignment was successfully delivered on 15 January 2026, marking the formal operational integration of India Post into the ONDC ecosystem.

The inaugural order was placed by UdyamWell, an ONDC-enabled initiative focused on supporting Bharatpreneurs, including artisans, farmers and rural entrepreneurs, by offering end-to-end digital commerce and logistics services.

Strengthening Digital and Interoperable Logistics

India Post’s integration with ONDC enables sellers using ONDC-enabled buyer applications to select the Department of Posts for parcel pickup, booking, transmission and last-mile delivery. This is facilitated through India Post’s extensive nationwide postal and logistics network, which spans urban, semi-urban and rural India.

The move represents a major step in the Department’s efforts to provide digitally enabled, interoperable and inclusive logistics solutions, particularly for small sellers and MSMEs who often face challenges accessing reliable delivery infrastructure.

‘Click & Book’ Model Now Live

Currently, the Department of Posts is live on ONDC through the “Click & Book” model. Under this model:

  • Sellers can digitally generate parcel pickup requests

  • Choose the Department of Posts as their logistics partner

  • Have consignments picked up directly from their premises

  • Pay postage at the time of pickup

  • Track consignments digitally through induction, transit and final delivery

All operations are managed using India Post’s technology-enabled logistics systems, ensuring transparency, traceability and efficiency.

Expanding Opportunities for MSMEs and Rural Sellers

With its unmatched reach, trusted public service legacy and expanding digital capabilities, India Post’s onboarding as an ONDC Logistics Service Provider is expected to significantly strengthen India’s national digital e-commerce ecosystem.

The integration will help enable inclusive participation of MSMEs, self-help groups, artisans and small rural sellers, allowing them to access national markets without reliance on proprietary or platform-specific logistics networks.

This milestone aligns with broader national initiatives such as Digital India, Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Make in India and ONDC’s vision of democratising digital commerce, ensuring that logistics infrastructure becomes a public, interoperable backbone for India’s growing digital economy.
