The Supreme Court on Friday declined to accept a petition from a waqf caretaker citing problems with the UMEED portal, used for recording waqf property details. The bench advised the petitioner to seek administrative solutions, stating the issues were largely logistical rather than legal matters.
The petitioner, Hashmat Ali, has been authorized to approach relevant authorities for grievance redressal. Chief Justice Surya Kant questioned why the plea was filed directly in the Supreme Court instead of the high court, especially since no constitutional challenge was presented.
Ali's campaign highlighted not only portal glitches but also issues with waqf classification under the Waqf Rules, 2025. Despite these concerns, the bench cited procedural routes available to the petitioner for addressing such issues outside the court.
