India, UK Deepen Telecom and AI Partnership at New Delhi AI Summit

On the sidelines of the AI Summit in New Delhi, Shri Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Union Minister of State for Communications, held a bilateral meeting at Dak Bhawan with Mr. Kanishka Narayan, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for AI and Online Safety, United Kingdom.
The discussions reaffirmed the growing depth of India–UK cooperation in telecommunications, digital innovation and emerging technologies, guided by the India–UK 2030 Roadmap and the UK–India Technology Security Initiative (TSI).
AI to Shape the Future of Telecom Networks
During the meeting, Dr. Pemmasani emphasised that India views artificial intelligence as central to the future of telecommunications.
He noted that combining India’s scale with the UK’s research strengths can help shape global standards in:

Open RAN architectures

Next-generation 6G systems
He stressed that future telecom technologies must drive both economic growth and digital trust.
Both sides reviewed progress under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT)–DCMS Memorandum of Understanding and welcomed the operationalisation of the India–UK Connectivity and Innovation Centre, endorsed at India Mobile Congress 2025.
Quantum Communications and Secure Networks
The Minister highlighted India’s National Quantum Mission and pointed to significant opportunities for collaboration in quantum communications and secure network infrastructure.
Both sides agreed that quantum-enabled technologies will play an important role in future digital security frameworks.
Joint Work on AI Applications for Telecom
The meeting focused on deepening cooperation in AI applications across telecom networks, including:

Both countries expressed interest in expanding joint research, pilot deployments and coordinated engagement in global standardisation forums such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and 3GPP.

India and the UK also exchanged insights on preventing telecom frauds and digital scams through AI-enabled tools.

The UK side shared its experience with open data frameworks and deterrence-based regulatory approaches to strengthen digital safety.
