Escalation in Karachi: Security Surge at US Consulate Amid Unrest

The Sindh government has significantly strengthened security measures at the US Consulate in Karachi, deploying over 1,000 police and paramilitary personnel after violent clashes erupted over the killing of Shiite leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The unrest resulted in 12 fatalities and 47 injuries as protesters attempted to breach consulate security.

The recent violence has prompted the formation of a Judicial Inquiry Commission, which convened its first meeting to probe the incident. The commission will investigate the causes and consequences of the confrontation, which involved a crowd of around 300 predominantly made up of a religious party's student wing.

Amidst the turmoil, the police are pursuing cases of terrorism, murder, and attempted murder against unidentified protesters. The investigations revealed that some protesters breached the consulate, leading to a tense standoff involving an American Marine.
