Maharashtra Officials Convicted in Latur Bribery Case

A Maharashtra government official and a junior clerk were convicted for accepting a Rs 5,000 bribe. Sentenced to prison, the two demanded the bribe for approving a business proposal. Balaji Kale received a longer sentence than Suresh Mali. Fines were imposed under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

In a significant ruling by a special Latur court, two Maharashtra government officials were convicted for accepting a bribe. The court sentenced them to imprisonment for demanding Rs 5,000 to approve a business proposal in 2014.

Balaji Kale, formerly the Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies (Dairy), received a two-and-a-half year sentence, while junior clerk Suresh Mali was sentenced to two years. The sentences come under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act of 1988.

The case, registered at Shivajinagar police station, revealed that Mali accepted the bribe on Kale's instructions. The court also imposed fines on both officials, and further details of the order are awaited.
