The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has addressed growing grievances regarding new electricity connections, clarifying that neither upfront payments nor initial site visits by power distribution officials are necessary. This marks an effort to simplify the process for consumers within Delhi.
The DERC oversees and regulates electricity utilities in the capital, including distribution companies such as TPDDL, BRPL, BYPL, and NDMC. The Supply Code Regulations, established in 2017, guide the release of new connections without requiring extra payments or preliminary property inspections.
New connection costs will appear on subsequent monthly bills. Applicants must submit a self-declaration about wiring testing through a licensed contractor. For any regulation violations, consumers can file complaints with the Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum, and escalate unsolved issues to the Electricity Ombudsman.
