Maldives and Sri Lanka Forge New Bonds with 7 Strategic MoUs

Maldives and Sri Lanka have exchanged 7 MoUs focusing on tourism, defence, and more during President Mohamed Muizzu's visit, marking 60 years of diplomatic ties. The MoUs were signed after talks with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, symbolizing the renewal of strong regional partnerships.

The Maldives and Sri Lanka have strengthened their relationship by signing 7 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across various sectors, notably including tourism and defence, during President Mohamed Muizzu's visit to Sri Lanka. This diplomatic exchange took place after extensive talks with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The MoUs also cover sectors such as archiving, teacher training and professional development, as well as sports and youth development. President Muizzu's visit marks the 60th year of diplomatic relations between these neighboring countries.

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized the importance of the Maldives as a vital economic partner in the region. Meanwhile, President Muizzu described this visit as a reaffirmation of their close ties and a precursor to a 'renewed and forward-looking partnership.' Muizzu's four-day visit, which includes various diplomatic engagements, also involved planting a sapling at Viharamahadevi Park to commemorate the occasion.
