Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann initiated a four-day 'Shukrana Yatra' to celebrate the implementation of the anti-sacrilege law. The procession began at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Sri Anandpur Sahib, with Mann emphasizing the stringent new measures to protect the Guru Granth Sahib from sacrilege.
The new legislation, the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act 2026, enforces harsher penalties against sacrilege, including life imprisonment. Addressing gatherings, Mann stated the law was created to deter deliberate acts of 'beadbi' and uphold the sanctity of the holy text, a cause close to the hearts of millions.
Mann criticized past governments for failing to enact similar laws, allowing offenders to evade justice due to legal loopholes. He urged the public to spread awareness of this law, ensuring that incidents of sacrilege are met with strict punishment. Mann underlined his commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of freedom fighters and protecting the sacred Guru Granth Sahib.
